Wow, this week has flown by and I can’t believe it’s Kindle Bargains time again already!
Here’s my pick of this week’s Kindle Bargains … Kindle books that are all 99p or less.
Not only is it 99p, it also has raving reviews and was written in just 30 hours … this man is my Hero!
Life… With No Breaks is a unique, hilarious and heartfelt look at the modern world we live in, told by a master story-teller with much to say – and only a weekend to say it in.
You’ll laugh out loud reading Nick’s odyssey of non-stop writing in a collection of anecdotes, asides and stories (admittedly featuring more fabrication and embellishment than a politician’s expenses claim) – all dredged up from an over-stimulated brain functioning on caffeine, nicotine and the occasional chocolate biscuit.
The book is a conversation with you, and with Nick you’ll venture into the thorny topics of love, life, sex, horribly timed bowel movements and a deathly fear of sponges (among many other things).
After you’ve read Life… With No Breaks, you may never look at the world the same way again!
Mixed reviews for this one, but it sounds like an emotional read and we could all use of them from time to time!
When Hattie Darling’s husband Ben dies on his first night home from an extended business trip, she is devastated. But when she finds among his belongings evidence that there had been another woman in his life, Hattie is unable to mourn Ben as she thinks she should. In an attempt to make peace with her discovery, and against the advice of her friends, Hattie decides to find the other woman and confront her. At the heart of this emotional novel is the intertwining of the lives of two very different women who connect in unexpected and inspiring ways.
A special launch offer of just 99p until the end of September.
This isn’t the first romantic story to feature a balcony, nor is it likely to be the last. Even so, what takes place in ‘How To Choose A Sweetheart’ is a modern, fresh take on an old-fashioned tale.
Max is a bookseller. Since his relationship with Jazz ended, he’s struggling to find purpose in life. That all changes when a beautiful woman, Cath, walks into his shop and pins up an advert asking for a piano teacher for her daughter, Alice.
It’s almost perfect. Max takes down the details and gets in touch immediately. Within a short space of time he manages to secure the position as Alice’s piano teacher and establish that Cath’s a single mother.
What could be better?
Well, he might be able to play the piano for a start.
Or his newly acquired piano teacher might not be an old, alcoholic wreck.
Or he might be completely over his ex-girlfriend.
And he might not be forced into a position where he needs to come up with a composition of his own to woo the new lady in his life.
It’s a tangled web we weave and Max seems to be sticking to the threads like an insect in a web.
A topsy-turvy romantic comedy that will warm your cockles and split your sides.
I really like the sound of this one, and Jodi Picoult has been saying wonderful things about it.
Hildy Good has reached that dangerous time in a woman’s life – middle-aged and divorced, she is an oddity in her small but privileged town. But Hildy isn’t one for self-pity and instead meets the world with a wry smile, a dark wit and a glass or two of Pinot Noir. When her two earnest grown-up children stage ‘an intervention’ and pack Hildy off to an addiction centre, she thinks all this fuss is ridiculous. After all, why shouldn’t Hildy enjoy a drink now and then?
But as the story progresses, we start to see another side to Hildy Good, and to her life’s greatest passion – the lies and self deceptions needed to support her drinking, and the damage she causes to those she loves. When a cluster of secrets become dangerously entwined, the reckless behaviour of one threatens to expose the other, with devastating consequences.
I think there’s just enough time left to squeeze another short, summer read in, even if the rain is looming outside!
The stories of three women’s lives are tied together as they grapple with the thorny issue of love.
Ciara spends her third wedding anniversary alone, wondering if she will ever mend her broken heart.
Seven years into a relationship, Katy isn’t looking for someone – until he appears.
Lara, still getting over a broken marriage, is trying not to fall for a much younger man…
